Dust of Dreams by visual artist Eva Frapiccini, is a cross-disciplinary installation which explores the dreamlike life of people through visual arts, music, performance and video art, that will run between Genoa and Turin between April and September 2022.

The project will start from Genoa, where the first action will take place in the Cortile Maggiore of Palazzo Ducale from 16th to 20th April 2022, from 12.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m., inviting citizens to enter the installation of the Dreams’ Time Capsule to activate one of the most important participatory phases of the project: the recording of dreams.

During the first wave of the Covid-19 emergency in 2020, several people started suffering from episodes of insomnia, sleep disturbances and nightmares. These states are identified as common side-effects of a widespread sense of anxiety and stress. Dreams transcend the cultures of those who experience them: some topos are identical in every population, revealing a universal language of the unconscious. Dust of Dreams activates the audio archive created by the artist through the participatory project Dreams’ Time Capsule which has involved more than 2200 people in 12 different cities in Europe, Middle East and Latin America (Turin, Bogotà, Sharjah, Stockholm, Riga, Berlin, Dubai, Bergamo, Fittja, Cairo, Rivoli, Manama in Bahrain). Dreams’ Time Capsule, the capsule where dreams are collected, today at Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, has been previously hosted by international cultural spaces such as kim? Contemporary Art Space in Riga, Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, ArkDes Swedish Museum of Architecture (Stockholm), Yorkshire Sculpture Park (Wakefield, United Kingdom), festivals such as Localize Potsdam (Berlin, Germany), Contemporary Locus (Bergamo) and educational departments such as those of Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Turin), and the Jorge Taleo University (Bogotà, Colombia), to which is added today the repository created by the citizens of Genoa. The audio archive is the source of the macro-themes or words-archetype in the dream narratives that will constitute the sound and visual structure of the multimedia installation that will be realized starting from the audio tracks of the archive with the music of Sara Berts, the images of Eva Frapiccini with a multimedia support. Streams of icon-images, modulated by an algorithm created ad hoc will be projected on screens during three festivals in June and September in Genoa and Turin: Electropark, Interplay and the Festival “Resistere e Creare” at the Teatro del Ponente. In the installation space, during the festivals the performers Ilaria Quaglia, Valerie Tameu, Giacomo Arrigoni Gilaberte, under the choreography of Daniele Ninarello, will give corporeity through a performance in tune with the audiovisual dramaturgy. The project in Genoa also includes a series of workshops on video and tailoring, aimed at the co-creation of video materials for the final work. The workshop will be staged in collaboration with Comune di Genova – Sala Dogana and with Associazione Il Limone Lunare, in April and May and will be addressed to participants selected through an open call. On June 3rd, the premiere of the multimedia work will be hosted at Porta Siberia, at the Genoa Harbour, during the Electropark festival. The work will be available also on June 4th and 5th, with two encore performances in the afternoon.

In Turin the show will be hosted at the Polo del ‘900, and it will be part of the programming of the Festival of dance theater Interplay 2022, to return to Genoa after the summer on September 24th at the Teatro del Ponente within the eighth edition of the Festival “Resistere e Creare” of the Teatro della Tosse and within the multidisciplinary programming of Electropark 2022.

The Dust of Dreams project is supported by the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo as part of the call for proposals “ART~WAVES. Per la creatività, dall’idea alla scena” (Productions line) which aims to consolidate the creative identity of the territories through the support of programming in the field of performing arts and contemporary creative production, combining research, production, supply and distribution in an ecosystem logic to strengthen the artistic vocations of the territory.
