PRESS RELEASE
____________________________________________________________
After the great success obtained last September with 90dB – Festival Internazionale delle Arti Sonore, cultural association moorroom, under the artistic direction of Massimiliano Busti, Rosanna Palermo and Stefano Tedesco, presents 90db Festival – Winter Edition in the spaces of the Ex-Cartiera Latina, with a sound art / media art exhibition and seven concerts.
Within the process started in the previous editions, the aim of 90dB Festival – Winter Edition is to propose in Rome – always appealing to a wider audience – the excellence of contemporary artistic research, with a special view on sound art and media art as instruments of territorial, urban and architectural survey, closely related to the use of new technologies.
90dB Festival – Winter Edition is supported by Assessorato alla Cultura e Turismo, Dipartimento Cultura di Roma Capitale.
> Opening: AlbumArte Project Space
90dB Festival – Winter Edition opens Saturday, February 14, 2015, at 7pm, at AlbumArte Project Space.
Florian Tuercke (1977, Germany) presents The Structural Sound Project Rome – Part 1, a project created especially for the Festival: a participatory artwork which explores the city sounds to create an interactive sound map. The artist describes the recording methods, distributing the kits to the participants in order to place some microphones, capable of recording the sound waves flowing inside different urban structures and materials, on various locations in the city such as Ostiense and Appia Antica. Then the microphones will be mapped on an online map, accessible on the Festival website (90dbfestival.org) and by an interactive station set up in the spaces of the Ex-Cartiera Latina.
This presentation will be followed by Fabio Perletta (1984, Italy) music performance, whose artistic research investigates the perceptual relationships between space and sound waves. Fabio Perletta will present the performance Interstitial Spaces.
> Exhibition: Ex-Cartiera Latina
The Festival continues on Saturday, February 21 and Sunday, February 22, 2015, involving the spaces of the Ex-Cartiera Latina in Appia Antica Regional Park.
Saturday, February 21, at 6pm: opening of sound art and media art exhibition, with Nonotak (a duo formed by French illustrator Noemi Schipfer and Japanese architect/musician Takami Nakamoto), Florian Tuerke (1977, Germany) and Francesco Giannico (1979, Italy). The artists will respectively present: Day Dream, an audiovisual installation able to immerse the viewer in an environment of sounds and bright geometries; The Rome Structural Sound Project, sound art piece created with the public’s help; Metrophony, an electronically reworked hearing witness of a trip along the entire route of Rome’s metro Linea B.
> Concerts: Ex-Cartiera Latina
Saturday, February 21 and Sunday, February 22, six concerts will offer an overview on the contemporary sound experimentation scene, from improvisation to electroacoustic, from electronics to audio-visual performance.
Saturday, February 21, from 8:30pm: Francesco Giannico, whose research is related to soundscape, XX+XY visuals and sound art project, a duo formed by Sladzana Bogeska (1978, Italy) and Giuseppe Pradella (1976, Italy) which combines the studies on three-dimensional graphics to sound through innovative digital media and, for the first time in Italy, Nonotak performing Late Speculation, a forty minutes live set in which the artists play with visual perception, sound and space, through a constant rebound between light and sound that gives rise to intangible architectures.
Sunday, February 22, from 8:30pm: Pierre Bastien (1953, France) who performs accompanied by an orchestra of sound devices assembled with Meccano parts; John Chantler (1974, Australia), for the first time in Italy, whose electronic music is produced through its modular synth and Giuseppe Ielasi (1974, Italy), creating electroacoustic music with guitar and electronics.
> The location
Headquarters of 90dB Festival – Winter Edition is once again the complex of the former paper mill Ex-Cartiera Latina in the Appia Antica Park, a site of industrial architecture unique for his architectural and naturalistic value. On this occasion, the festival will also open to other places in the city, involving other spaces related to artistic experimentation as AlbumArte Project Space, as well as the public spaces of neighborhoods such as Ostiense, whose industrial vocation manages to establish a dialogue, mediated by the artworks, with the architecture of the Ex-Cartiera Latina.
