AlbumArte presents the first solo show in Italy by Kristina Inčiūraitė, one of the most renowned artists in the Lithuanian contemporary art scene (1974, Siauliai, Lithuania, she lives and works in Vilnius), entitled Reflecting Women and curated by Benedetta Carpi De Resmini (open from September 16 until October 26, 2019).

Another woman who talks about womens’ universe at AlbumArte and another Lithuan artist presented for the first time in Italy at AlbumArte after Lina Lapelytė with her live performance Yes. Really!  in January 2017, who is one of three artists who won the Golden Lion at the 58th Biennale of Venice, ongoing, and after Eglė Budvytytė, of which AlbumArte presented the first show in Italy called Tra ciglia e pensiero in Autumn 2017 and the itinerant performance Choreography for the Running Male, realized by AlbumArte with the support of Mondriaan Fonds, in collaboration with MAXXI National Museum of Arts of the 21st Century and the Lithuanian Culture Institute.

Benedetta Carpi De Resmini has become the Italian curator of reference for Lithuanian contemporaryand the exchange between the two countries, she has created, curated and directed all our projects with Lithuanian artists, as well as other major projects in Italy and Vilnius (one for all, the great show Magma – Il corpo e la parola nell’arte delle donne tra Italia e Lituania dal 1965 ad oggi, an exhibition project curated with Laima Kreivyté in 2017 and 2018, exhibited at Istituto Nazionale per la Grafica in Rome and at the National Gallery in Vilnius).

Reflecting Women focuses on the concept of feminine identity, stating that gender is in no way a stable identity, a fixed system, but it is an individual process built over time. The exhibition intents to reflect on this theme, which is one of the most controversial of recent times, through the eyes of an artist who has always paid particular attention to the female world in her work. The word reflecting expresses an analysis on the female figure, but also a reflection, understood as a perception that each of us has through the observation of others. In fact, no one can observe herself/himself, except through a mirror, but it can also return a distorted image, like the one that every woman receives and absorbs more or less unconsciously from the female iconography of contemporary society, from its stereotypes and from the archetypes that have conditioned her for centuries.

Also for this project, realized in cooperation with Latitudo and Kristina Inčiūraitė’s Studio, great international collaborations were created, and it has been promoted by the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Italy and produced thanks to support of the Lithuanian Council for Culture, i-Portunus (a project selected and supported by the Creative Europe Programme) and the Lithuanian Culture Institute.
Thanks to Casale del Giglio for the wine tasting on the opening day.
