Part of the ARKAD collateral event of Manifesta 13 – Les Parallèles du Sud

The event is part of the collateral activities of the
Quadriennale d’Arte 2020

Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th January 2021

NB AlbumArte is closed from November 5th, like all non-commercial art spaces. Nevertheless, having had the precious opportunity to take part in Manifesta 13 – Les Parallèles du Sud  by presenting the artist Sonia Andresano, selected in February 2020, and her project “BARCODE”, double video installation site specific, produced during the summer, we will present it in the spaces of AlbumArte in these days in line with the timing given by the event, which must now conclude its programming. It will therefore not be possible to open the event to the public.

We will make a video to document the project.

AlbumArte connects with Manifesta 13 – Les Parallèles du Sud, presenting the video installation by Sonia Andresano titled “BARCODE”, curated by AlbumArte, Dimora OZ and Analogique and part of ARKAD, collateral event of Manifesta 13 – Parallèles du Sud. Open to visitors on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th of November 2020, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM here at AlbumArte.

“ARKAD”, curated by Dimora OZ and Analogique is the parallel project promoted for Manifesta 13 by KAD (Kalsa Art District), a network of artists, curators, spaces and cultural workers inside the area of Kalsa in Palermo. The project is supported by the Italian Council and it involves around fifty artists and performers, fifteen individuals and collective curator, and a vast network of partners, including AlbumArte.

The artists of AlbumArte, selected together with Lori Adragna, is Sonia Andresano, who will present here in AlbumArte her project “BARCODE”.

A video will be presented also online in a link between AlbumArte and ESADMM (École des beaux-arts de Marseille), venue of the event in Marseille, due to the impossibility of being there because of the Covid 19 emergency.

The artist, sticking to the given theme, decided to realise a video that will reflect on the idea of the limit. The gate as a grill that defines and protects is the subject of the installation. This ensemble of vertical lines, both material and imaginary, seems to interrupt a journey, actually stops it. Similarly to an enormous barcode, it is used to identify the stranger, selecting who can enter and protecting us from the outside. The gate is a temporary divider, the interrupted line on a map, a mobile barrier like the barrier of a construction site from which it is possible to see through.

Sonia returns to AlbumArte after various experiences with us as her recent solo exhibition Allegra ma non troppo, curated by Daniela Cotimbo (June 24th – July 17th, 2020)

The event is part of the collateral activities of the Quadriennale d’Arte 2020
