AlbumArte becomes part of Google Arts & Culture, the platform developed by Google to promote and preserve art and culture online, with a digital collection of exhibitions and events that tells the history of AlbumArte since 2014.
We are pleased to announce that this takes place on the occasion of World Art Day, the international art celebration born in 2012 to promote and enhance creative activity worldwide.
Unlike most of the featured institutions, AlbumArte does not have its own permanent collection, thus through the Google Arts & Culture platform we want to document the activities carried out from October 2014 until January 2020 by means of photographs and videos, unfortunately having to exclude the projects previously organised abroad.
On the platform, we present of selection of high resolution exhibition view photographs by Sebastiano Luciano with the idea of restoring the sense of the exhibition in its complexity, showing the works in dialogue with the space, and documenting the spirit and planning in which the event was born. To these are added photographs and videos – by Matteo Pisapia – and a special focus on AlbumArte | VideoArtForum, a series of art film and video review initiated in 2016.
In addition to the collection of images and videos, Google Arts & Culture allows partners to create Stories. For the first launch, we created five stories, each dedicated to five different projects that took place in the spaces of AlbumArte with the aim of gathering and foster a dialogue between those exhibitions or events conceived within a unitary context: AlbumArte | Artist residencies, AlbumArte | Performances, AlbumArte | FLASH!, Azioni che diventano opere artistiche, AlbumArte | VideoArtForum.
We have enthusiastically joined this initiative and will continue to increase and enrich our profile over time with the idea of including all the projects, exhibitions and events that make and have made our space alive and that will continue to do so.
AlbumArte on Google Arts and Culture was carried out, as part of her training internship, by Alice Isabella Leone, art historian and our trainee in the period November 2019 – January 2020, curated by Cristina Cobianchi, with the general coordination of Fabiola Fiocco. A over three-months-long preparatory work, that started with the first drafts by Valentina Fiore, and that we hope will clearly give back to the public the idea of our engagement and highlight the precious work of all the artists and curators involved.

Google Arts & Culture is the Google platform that allows users to explore works of art, artefacts, and much more among over 2000 museums, archives and organizations from 80 countries that have worked together with the Google Cultural Institute to share their collections and their online stories. Available on the web from laptops and mobile devices, or through the app for iOS and Android, the platform is designed as a place to explore and enjoy art and culture online. Google Arts & Culture is a creation of the Google Cultural Institute.
