Juliane Schmidt (1982, Görlitz, Germany) is a visual artist and musician. She studied at the Bauhaus University of Weimar, the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma and the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, where she was a student of Monika Brandmeier until 2013.
The use of simple materials, often combined with paradoxical events and meticulous demonstrations of consumption, are key aspects of her works, in which she uses video/performances, installations, photography, drawing and objects. In 2012 she received the Robert Sterl Award from the Dresden Public Foundation, in 2013 she won the “Kunstgenerator” residency, Viersen, Germany. Her works have been part of national and international exhibitions in Berlin, Essen, Leipzig, Chemnitz and Dresden, Strasbourg, Rotterdam, Wroclaw and Rome. In collection at the Kunstfonds, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen, Dresden.
